Abstract
On January 8, 2023, thousands of far-right protesters invaded government buildings in Brasília in a major action against the election and inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Most were dressed in the national colors of yellow and green, and some carried signs with slogans against national institutions and the recently sworn-in government. While the movement was concentrated in the capital city, it was also spread across the country, involving street and highway closures, encampments in front of military installations, threats of truck driver strikes, and traditional mobilizations organized through social media. Among the demonstrators’ demands were issues ranging from conspiracy theories to distrust in institutions, including distrust in the mechanisms of the electoral process itself.
